Ben Garza is a Santa Fe, NM based Artist, Musician, and Writer.
It is through his travels around world that Ben observes art, and culture in order to stimulate his creative works. While living in New York, Ben obtained his Bachelors in Music Education. He then went on to live in the south of France to receive his Masters in Art in Art History and Plein Air Painting.
Ben states, “It is through seeing the world and living in different cities that I inject all of my influences into my paintings”.
In Ben's plein air works he seeks to express the forces of nature and create form out of abstraction. Ben's plein air paintings are filled with a colorful array of energy, compositional excitement, and child like joyfulness. Ben has traveled across the United States twice in an effort to accomplish plein air painting in some of the most iconic locations in America.
Ben refers to his studio work as Post-Grunge. In his artwork one may find reoccurring themes dealing with the psychological makeup of day-to-day living. The Post-Grunge works exhibit highly expressive color juxtaposed with south west subject matter. These works conjoin contemporary art with traditional practices in order to entertain the viewer. Ben’s painting will trust one into a place of evaluation and contemplation of one’s daily existence on earth.
Lastly, Ben believes his paintings are the reinterpretation of daily existence. Both the known and the unknown, expectation and realization.
Ben Garza as a musician has created music from several different genres. These spam from Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz, and Mellow Acoustic. From his last release titled, “Boot Lick” to his recent, “3015” a vast difference can be heard in musical style and composition. Boot Lick sounds like a funky, bluesy, upbeat ride of never ending good time, while 3015 is more of a heavily composed acoustic and voice mono drama. For Ben making music is something that happens on a daily basis.
Benjamin Garza the writer is always searching for new ways to reach the imaginarium. In his book of poetry titled, “The Excited” one will find an every winding road down the endless questions of life, searching answers unknown. The book is titled excited in order to “excite” the readers creative inspirations. In reading this book one will find poems, two short stories, and considerations for the reader to take away.
Ben Garza feels that surroundings and observations ignite his creativity and constantly lead him to new projects.
He states, “I give all my credit to my beautiful wife Danielle who always pushes me to complete my projects. Without her all this really would mean nothing.”
